JOYCE CAROL OATES - Strand Used Books

Joyce Carol Oates of the United States is the author of many novels, plays, books of short fiction, poetry, a book of stories that seem to have been written through the influence of an unknown Portuguese, whom she calls Fernandes, a book on the fight game - On Boxing - and most recently, Blonde, a novel based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. "Strand Used Books 1956" is a chapter from the original manuscript of Blonde, published in May 2000.

 

YEHUDA AMICHAI - Selected Poems

Yehuda Amichai of Israel died in September of 2000. Among his books in English are: Selected Poetry of Yehuda Amichai, and, at the time of his death, Open Closed Open. Travels (³Travels of the Last Benjamin of Tudela²) is published by Exile in a bilingual edition, Hebrew and English.

 

RAY ROBERTSON - Fever

Ray Robertson of Canada is the author of the novels Home Movies, Heroes, and the forthcoming Moody Food.

 

CARSTON JENSEN - Pure Evil

Carsten Jensen of Denmark has published six collections of essays and two novels, one of which, Earth in the Mouth, has been translated into English. His most recent book, I Have Seen the World Begin, was awarded the Danish Booksellers’ Prize.

 

JOE ROSENBLATT/MICHEL CHRISTENSEN - Nine Poems and Nine Collages

Joe Rosenblatt of Canada has been a prolific poet: Dream Craters, Bumblebee Dithyramb, Virgins and Vampires, Top Soil, The Sleeping Lady, Brides of the Stream, Poetry Hotel - Selected Poems 1963-1985, and A Tentacled Mother. In 1995, he published the Joe Rosenblatt Reader. He has also published two volumes of memoirs: Escape from the Glue Factory, and The Kissing Goldfish of Siam. The Voluptuous Gardener, a collection of his drawings, paintings and writings appeared in 1996. Michel P. Christensen of Canada is a collage artist and "surréaliste manqué"; the curator of a recent exhibition on surrealism, Constellations: Surrealism and Its Affinities; assisted in the realization of several "livres d’artistes"; illustrated with collages the poetry of Andrée Christensen, recipient of the Trillium Prize.

 

JONATHAN GOLDSTEIN - You Are a Spaceman With Your Head Under the Bathroom Stall Door

Jonathan Goldstein of Canada is a young writer who has been published in Saturday Night Magazine, Matrix, Blood & Aphorisms, Broken Pencil and The Montreal Mirror.

 

DAVID DONNELL - Six Poems

David Donnell of Canada has published poetry: The Blue Sky, Dangerous Crossings, Settlements, China Blues - Poems and Stories, and Dancing in the Dark; and prose: Hemingway in Toronto/A Post-Modern Tribute, and The Blue Ontario Hemingway Boat Race.

 

JAN CAREW - But Is Why Tonic Die?

Jan Carew of Canada and Guyana is the author of eight books of fiction, among them: Black Midas, The Wild Coast, The Last Barbarian, and Moscow Is Not My Mecca.

 

JOHN O’LEARY - The Flight of the Dove

John O’Leary of Ireland has completed a book of poems, The Flight of the Dove. He has published poems in the American journals, Shenandoah and Sewanee Review.

 

BARRY CALLAGHAN - Trudeau: The 1968 Campaign

Barry Callaghan of Canada is the author of fiction and poetry: The Black Queen Stories, A Kiss Is Still a Kiss, When Things Get Worst, Hogg:The Poems and Drawings, and a memoir, Barrel-house Kings.

 

WILLIAM RONALD - The Prime Minister: Trudeau

William Ronald of Canada, who died in 1998, was a founding member of Canada’s pioneer group of abstract painters, Painters Eleven (1953) and by the time he was 37, he had had six one-man shows at New Yorkıs Kootz Gallery (1957-63). At his death, his work was in hundreds of private collections and major museums. The Prime Minister series was first presented at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The paintings, along with the artistıs notes, and his historical prose commentaries on each of the men, were published by Exile Editions as The Prime Ministers (1983).
