INTRODUCTORY PAGE FOR LIBRARIES
(Special Offers at the bottom of this page)

As an introduction to librarians, and those responsible for library book buying, we have prepared this page as an overview of who and what we are. You can view – on-line – some of our recent issues (click on any cover above), and in them see a sample how many good authours – from Canada and around the world – have been featured in our pages. On end, there are links that allows you to take advantage of our Special Subscription Rate, or to receive our Special Promotional Kit.

To begin ... EXILE is a quarterly journal that will publish it’s 120th issue with the coming of Volume 30, No’s 1-4, available through 2006. We feel proud of this moment, and want to acknowledge that this could only have happened with the consistent reader/subscriber support we’ve received since we started in 1972 ... a large part of that subscriber base made up of libraries from Canada and around the world. Thank You!

And, we must recognize all of the writers who have appeared in our pages over the past three decades (now close to 1000 contributors). It is through them that we have become respected as a very valuable forum for literature, making available the best writing from different cultures, and searching out the most distictive writing at home as we combine the established with the new unlike any other publication. We also are grateful to all of the artists who complete our presention. We showcase their paintings, prints and photographs on the covers, and since 2000 in an 8-page high quality Colour and/or B&W section. And as has always been the case, the uniqueness of The Literary Quarterly acts like an antenna, locating and attracting these diverse voices that allow us to enrich North American letters as only Exile can.

To the point: the above is why we have appealed to librarians and library book buyers alike. They realize how important we are, how unique a window into writing, and art, we offer. And, how important a chronological history we provide: writers and artists, many of whom begin their careers in our pages, sit comfortably, side by side those who’s careers are blossoming or in full swing: the recognizable–Margaret Atwood, Yehuda Amichai, John Montague, Aude, B.W. Powe, Nicole Brossard – with the new – Stephen Hayward, winner the $10,000 Upper Canada fiction award; Melissa Hardy, winner of the $10,000 Journey Prize; Neale McDevitt, winner of the CBC/Quebec Writers’ Federation Prize for Fiction, and winner of the McAuslin Award for a First Book; Matt Shaw, short-listed for this year’s Journey Prize.

Simply click on the Covers at the top of this page, and each will take you to a Contributors List of who appeared in that issue (in these five alone are writers and artists from Italy, Denmark, France, Croatia, the Slovak Republic, Cuba, Ireland, Brazil, Mexico and Canada). From there you can also view a sample of each piece, and thereby get a feeling for how each issue takes the unique styles of individual authors and shapes them into a complete and enjoyable reading experience. (And, if you want to discover more about us, the Exile Quarterly Web site takes you along various avenues of our publishing past, back through to Volume 1 No.1)
