I FEEL I SHOULD LEAVE YOU HERE AND MEET YOU IN ANOTHER COUNTRY

by

Paola Febbraro

Translated by Brunella Antomarini and Branko Gorjup

Paintings by Luc Bourbonnais

In Friendship with Annamaria Farrabi

the soul is a sieve

keeping time to the dong of a bell

so soft so harsh

the soul is hard work

pretending to be useful

With Cristina and Domenico

the soul a land’s end

snout of warm earth nudging the sea

news of separation comes from you

with such a moving explanation

the treeline etched on the mountain ridge

a sky-blue mist forgetful of the flesh

blue

March

the moist garden has come saying

bathe your entrails here is

thick blood the blood that paints

the moist garden has come saying

lie down, struggle, conquer

all the shimmering sea surfaces

the baptism of the night has come

a nut in the shape of stretched cloth

the strong heart has come

with the flaring nostrils of a horse
